Steps to Become a Registered Apprentice

1. Meet the Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old unless you are 17 years old and in a trade school.
  • Physically able to perform the work of the trade.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

2. Gain Initial Work Experience

  • Apprentice applicants must work 300 hours for a Local 44 signatory contractor before they are eligible to begin their registered apprenticeship.

3. Enroll in the Apprenticeship Program

  • The apprentice applicant must fill out an apprenticeship application packet and have an Intent to Hire form signed by an approved employer. 
  • To obtain a packet, fill out the form below, Contact JATC Director Joe Knapp at 216-375-3292, or email him at [email protected].
  • Successful candidates will be enrolled in the apprenticeship program, which includes both on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

4. Complete the Training Requirements

  • Apprentices will be assigned to work with experienced journeymen on various projects, gaining hands-on experience in the field.
  • The apprenticeship program typically lasts four years and includes a minimum of 4,800 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of classroom instruction.
  • Apprentices will learn skills such as roofing installation, waterproofing techniques, safety practices and more.
