Steps to Become a Registered Apprentice
1. Meet the Eligibility Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old unless you are 17 years old and in a trade school.
- Physically able to perform the work of the trade.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
2. Gain Initial Work Experience
- Apprentice applicants must work 300 hours for a Local 44 signatory contractor before they are eligible to begin their registered apprenticeship.

3. Enroll in the Apprenticeship Program
- The apprentice applicant must fill out an apprenticeship application packet and have an Intent to Hire form signed by an approved employer.

- Successful candidates will be enrolled in the apprenticeship program, which includes both on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
4. Complete the Training Requirements
- Apprentices will be assigned to work with experienced journeymen on various projects, gaining hands-on experience in the field.
- The apprenticeship program typically lasts four years and includes a minimum of 4,800 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of classroom instruction.
- Apprentices will learn skills such as roofing installation, waterproofing techniques, safety practices and more.
